5 DIFFERENT KINDS OF WEBSITES TO START

5 DIFFERENT KINDS OF WEBSITES TO START

How to Start A Blog? The first question that must be answered is: Why do you want to start a blog?  Your why will provide the direction for what kind of blog or website that you should start.  For example:

  1. Are you going to be blogging to promote your existing business?
  2. Are you going to be blogging to promote your thoughts on a subject that you like?
  3. Are you going to be blogging to promote affiliate products?
  4. Are you going to be blogging to promote AdSense for revenue by click?
  5. Are you going to be blogging to promote e-commerce products?

Why do I provide all of these questions, because I have done them all?  Believe it or not, there is a difference in what to set up for each kind.  I want to address the differences for you, so that you do not make a mistake or waste time by setting yourself up incorrectly.  In each example I will address the question of: How to start that kind of blog?

Tip #1: There are free blogs and paid blogs.  Free blogs are on platforms like blogger.com, wordpress.com & tumblr.com.  These are the most popular.  If you are going to go the free route, then blogger.com would be the most beneficial for Search Engine optimization (S.E.O.).  Google owns blogger and the likely hood is that your blog would carry more page rank authority for that reason.

You would show up better in search results for people to find your webpages.  Pros to these platforms are that they are free and user friendly.  The cons to these free platforms are that when you do a search for a webpage that it will show up as: “www.yourwebsitename.wordpress.com”.  If you paid for your own website, then your webpage address will show up as: www.yourwebsitename.com.

The .com will show up before that web address with the platform address behind it will rank.  I recommend paying for webhosting and owning your domain name.  You can use the free platforms to create extra cash on the side and people are doing it successfully.  If you are serious, then pay for your own website.

PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS BLOG

Question # 1: Are you going to be blogging to promote your existing business? If you own a business, then you want to start a blog that will be named after your business name.  If you are the business, then you want to brand yourself.  The first question to answer is what am I branding myself or the company?  Once you determine the answer, then you will look for a domain name that will be the same name as you or your company name.

TIP # 2: Finding a domain name can be challenging, because few exist today that are available.  Sometimes the name will be available for a premium price, because someone purchased the name to sell it for a profit.  There is a website called “whois.com” that will tell you the owner of a website name, if you want to prepare an offer to purchase your name or company name.

If they pay for domain privacy, then you will not be able to find out the owner of a domain name.  If cannot find a name that is available that matches, then you need to look for close variations to see if they are available.  Once, you purchase a domain name, and then you will want to create your pages:

  • Loading page
  • About (you and or company)
  • Contact
  • Start blogging your post

PROMOTE YOUR THOUGHTS ON A BLOG

Question #2: Are you going to promote your thoughts on a subject that you like? You will want to look for a website name that is focused on a keyword in the topic that you want to talk about in your blog.  The name of your blog should use the same keyword that you want your topic to be about in your blog.  It will benefit you in the search engines.

If you don’t tell the search engines what your website is about, then they will choose what it is about.  You do not want that.  Refer to Tip # 2 to determine what to do to choose a domain name for your niche.  Once, you purchase a domain name, and then you will want to create your pages:

  • Loading page
  • About
  • Contact
  • Start blogging your post

PROMOTE YOUR AFFILIATE PRODUCTS ON A BLOG

Question # 3: Are you going to be blogging to promote affiliate products? If you want to sell affiliate products, then you will want to choose a domain name with keywords around the kind of products you want to promote.  If you want to be an affiliate for photography, then choose keywords about photography for your domain name.  You will want to set up a blog that will talk about photography.  You will need an account with Amazon for example, to sell camera products.  Why would you need that account?  How does it work?  I am glad you asked?

You need the account, because they sell products that you talk about on your blog. You need to sign up, because, they need to provide you with a link that has a cookie (tracking code). The link with the cookie tells Amazon that the purchase came through your link. Amazon can pay you a commission for bringing them that customer.

You will need to provide the company that you want to sell for a commission with your personal data. You will be required to provide your Name, S.S.N., address and banking for direct deposit. You can purchase a TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER if you do not want to use you S.S.N.

There are two legal bits of information that you need to pay attention to for affiliate products. The FTC states that you must place a disclaimer on your website that you receive a commission for the products that people are purchasing from your affiliate links.  They are looking and the fee can be up to $11,000 maybe total or per instance. Whatever the case, you should check into that law on the FTC website before you become a seller using third party links. You should let them know that your terms of use and privacy policy are not the same as theirs. They should read their policy before purchasing products.

PROMOTE YOUR ADSENSE ON A BLOG

Question # 4: Are you going to be blogging to promote AdSense for revenue by click? You will want to research the price of ad payments by industry. There are ads that pay cents and ads that pay dollars. The type of website that you build will determine what kind of ads you can place on your website. If you build the wrong kind of website, then you will get cents for clicks. I owned a website that used ads for moving. The ads paid well. The point is to do your research in Google AdSense to find out what ads pay a lot. You will need to find keywords that will bring you traffic by doing research or you will not get traffic to click the ad. You will need to write plenty of posts. Do the research for the best niche website for your AdSense website or try to find another way to generate revenue.

PROMOTE YOUR E-COMMERCE ON A BLOG

Question # 5: Are you going to be blogging to promote e-commerce products? If you want to build an e-commerce website, then you will need to find a niche with products that you want to sell. You can buy products wholesale or create them to sell for profit. You will need to create content to sell your products. You will need to use woocommerce plugin for your products. Sign up for a PayPal account for payments.  You should be able to know what direction to go to for any website that you want to create. Get started! Do Something.
